DOL Withdraws Proposal To Overhaul Immigration Program
The Department of Labor won’t be overhauling its program for certifying employers to sponsor immigrant workers for green cards.
A proposed DOL rule would have changed the permanent labor certification program, the agency’s way of ensuring that hiring an immigrant won’t displace U.S. workers or harm U.S. wages and working conditions. The department announced today that it withdrew the proposal from review by the White House Office of Management and Budget, where it has been since March.
The DOL also withdrew a request for information to update Schedule A, a list of positions showing enough of a worker shortage that employers don’t have to go through the normal recruitment steps before hiring an immigrant.
