Obama to Hold Town Hall Meeting on Immigration

President Obama will hold a town hall meeting on immigration in Miami on Wednesday, February 25th. The President wants to directly address the Latin-American community about his Executive Action on Immigration amidst recent news that the program has been halted by an injunction from the federal courts. The town hall meeting will be held at Florida International University (FIU) and will be broadcast in both English and Spanish.

The Executive Action on Immigration that the President announced last November was to begin accepting applications for DACA and DAPA, the two programs that would offer protection from deportation for up to 5 million illegal immigrants. However, last week a Federal District Court Judge handed down a decision halting the implementation of the two programs. The President remains resolute that his Executive Action is legal and he is optimistic the courts will ultimately agree.

According to White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest the President wishes to engage in a genuine conversation with Latinos about issues that are important to their community. The town hall meeting is also another opportunity for the President to reach the general public and continue to make the case that these reforms are necessary and beneficial to the United States as a whole.
